Last night myself and a few colleagues played Risk, the world domination board game. It reminded me of what is really important when you are working hard / long hours with the same management team day in day out, that you have to have some REAL fun as well.
Even though i was feeling a bit tired and had ‘man flu’ I felt really energised today and the simple reason was that it was fun to be at ‘work’ last night. Throughout the evolution of www.just-eat.co.uk we have had ‘risk’ type nights where we have combined real hard work with real genuine fun with each other and I think that is what motivates me. The events have evolved as the management team has grown and changed but the principle has remained the same.
Tailor made motivational courses and speeches are fine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myyWXKeBsNk) if that is what floats your boat and I certainly would not knock them but for me the key is depth and longevity….to me moments like that are ‘real’, there is a lot of honesty and bonding in the harsh truth of trying to wipe each other other off the planet!
Lots of things motivate me, personal gain, self improvement, great people, my family, a farm with my wife & dogs and of course winning at RISK next time!
You did not mention whether you wun – and in case you lost, who wun?
I wonder who could have won bearing in my mind the comment posted?!
Let me guess…;-)
