One of the keys things I try to drive into all the sales team at just-eat.co.uk and previously at Coke is not to make the mistake of not being motivated. You just kid yourself. One of the key skills as a salesperson is being self motivated and a self starter.Nearly every sales person I have ever met has said to me they are ‘highly motivated’ and a ’self starter’ but as with most things there are degrees to which this has been the case.
The takeaway restaurant business to business environment is a genuinely tough market to operate in, I’ll elaborate in a later blog when a good recent example comes up!
I have noticed over the last 3 years that only the really ‘tough’, highly motivated members of our team are able to excel over a prolonged period of time. We have been successful at Just-Eat at finding these people and I am very aware that without them and their self motivation we would not be where we are today.
We don’t use any formal structured motivational course to try and embed this into our team. We have preferred to build our shared motivation around getting in ‘the trenches’ together, working hard and being able to look each other in the eye and say it was great to be part of that. Fundamentally we all want to be part of a success and that is what has driven our motivation.
