A Great Day with Quickbite Magazine and Pizza Go Go

March 13th, 2011 · Just-Eat, Personal stuff, Sales

Wales might have lost to England and since recovered in the six nations (although nothing makes up for losing to England ;-) ) but we had a great night in Cardiff.  The owner of Quickbite Restaurant Magazine and Pizza Go Go joined me for fun, rugby and frolics. It was a great day and evening, even if the result went the wrong way from my perspective!

Bangalore, 13th January: Hungry Zone, India’s leading online food ordering and restaurant table reservation platform, today announced that, Just-Eat, UK’s largest online takeaway ordering service, has acquired a majority shareholding in the company and will invest US$ 5-10 million over the coming years into this Joint Venture. Founded in July 2006 and headquartered in Bangalore, India, Hungry Zone enables its customers to place online home delivery orders with over 650 restaurants serving over 40 different cuisines.

This deal is the first major investment of its kind where European e-commerce has invested in this sector in India. It will provide a strong foundation for the joint venture to expand into all Indian metropolitan cities, starting with Mumbai and Delhi shortly.

Happy New Year and thanks for a Great Start to 2011

January 3rd, 2011 · Just-Eat, Sales

A quick message to all our customers to say thanks for making this New Years Day the biggest and best ever, a very happy 2011 to you all.  New years day is the biggest day of the year for takeaway restaurants in terms of how busy they are. A combination of hangovers, staying in and a lovely takeaway treat all combine to make it a perfect storm for takeaway ordering.  I had a lamb madras after we finished work and it tasted great.

We will continue to work hard to make our site and service even better in 2011. We have some really exciting developments coming up (not least a mobile app Yeeehaaaa) in 2011 and this will make ordering your fav local takeaway even easier on Just-Eat.

I won’t Pizza Express in a rush!

January 3rd, 2011 · Personal stuff, Uncategorized

I went for dinner at Pizza Express today and I have to say I will not be rushing back. To be fair to the large chain it is never easy to maintain the standards that once made you successful and if it was purely down to the quality of their food they would be fine. However the rest of the experience was depressingly bad and if I was the MD of Pizza Express I would be reaching for the staff engagement manual. We have many challenges in our business but I am happy to say that just-eaters are nothing if not a passionate / fun bunch.

The team at the Milton Keynes X-scape were obviously totally disinterested in their work and taking any pride in what they did.  Our waitress could barely have been less interested to be working there if she had tried. If she had gone to sleep on the floor next to our table while our food had sat on the counter side growing even colder it would not have surprised me.

Another good thing PE have done is have an open kitchen so that you can watch all the drama and excitement of the food preparation while you wait and wait and wait. This works when you have a dynamic kitchen team but not when they shuffle around the place mumbling looking at the floor. It was shame because the core of the concept was good (food and environment) but the people at the branch I ate at could not have cared less. Definitely back to Nando’s next time and if you want a really great pizza at half the price you should go to Just-Eat!

Is this the best fish and chip shop in the UK?

December 31st, 2010 · Just-Eat, Personal stuff, Uncategorized

It might be holiday season but you can’t beat a bit of fish and chips!  Gemma and I grabbed a bite at the Aquarius fish and chip shop in Ruislip, Middlesex last night.  The quality of the food was excellent as well as the service and premises. If you know a better fish and chip shop in the UK then let me know? If you are in the Ruislip area then make sure you try this place out it really is excellent!  Once again Gemma was impressed with the glamour of my choice of dinner venue. ;-)

12 Days of Christmas Just-Eat Stylie

December 20th, 2010 · Just-Eat, Personal stuff, Sales

This year Jason Whale one of super star marketing team, came up with the idea of some of the UK based team making the 12 days of Christmas!  I have to say not being a natural singer to say the least (whoever said all Welsh people could sing was clearly wrong) I was slightly concerned about the quality of my input but what we all lacked in quality we more than made up for in effort. We hope you all enjoy it.

Thanks to all the team that took the time and put their pride to one side to make this!

X Factor Final appearance for Just-Eat.co.uk

December 15th, 2010 · Just-Eat, Sales

I have to say I enjoy the X – Factor, it is just good old fashioned entertaining Saturday night TV.  It was brilliant to see Just-Eat.co.uk creeping into the final via the Matt Cardle pizza when the programme went to the usual home town shots with Stacey Soloman (her singing career is going from strength to strength since last years X – Factor)  hosting the ‘hysterically’ excited Colchester crowd.

The story had lots of coverage nationally. Here is a link to the Daily Mirrors coverage as a sample, but to my delight we also made it into The Telegraph.

As a small aside I do love the way they always include the local mayor in these brief skits to the home town of the finalists because they just have no relevance at all to the person or programme. Classic! :-)

Check it out.

Travel chaos spreads as freeze heads south

Sadie Gray

Stuck in the snow?

Snow and ice shut roads and schools the length of Britain today as forecasters predicted that temperatures could plummet to minus 20C as the freeze deepens further this week.

Altnaharra, Sutherland, was the coldest place in the UK last night, at minus 16.1C (3F), and up to 50 cm (20ins) of snow fell on higher ground in Scotland and northern England.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings along the entire east coast, and snow continues to spread southwards, expected today in the east Midlands, the south and London.

The conditions caused widespread travel chaos today, as Edinburgh airport closed and services from Aberdeen, Newcastle, Durham Tees Valley, Luton and Jersey were disrupted.

Chelsea were caught out last night after their match against Newcastle when their flight home was cancelled, leaving them with a 300-mile coach trip back to London.

Rail services on the East Coast were today subject to a revised timetable because of delays between Edinburgh and Newcastle.

Driving remained treacherous in snowy areas. In Scotland last night, blizzards, ice and jack-knifed lorries stranded at least 669 motorists on the A90, M90 and A9.

Police closed the A9 between Dunblane and Perth, and the road remains closed this morning along with the M90 at Bridge of Earn, near Perth. Central Scotland Police urged drivers to avoid the area if possible. “Conditions are horrendous and we would urge caution,” a spokesman said.

Nick Mailer, 28, from Edinburgh, had been driving home from Inverness after a holiday in the highlands with his wife, Lisa, and baby son, Benjamin, when the traffic ground to a halt in heavy snow near Dunkeld.
