Dominos ‘Product Development’ Marketing Video

January 19th, 2010 · 5 Comments · Just-Eat, Uncategorized

I received this the other day on a mail from Mat who heads up our marketing at Just-Eat.  I enjoyed watching this as it does show that big brands are now really aware of the power of the ‘new’ media and people talking on twitter etc.  I have to say from a personal perspective I am not tweeting or even nudging on facebook that is not me, but I obviously take a keen interest commercially and find it fascinating the rate and power of their growth.Watch the clip.

Of course it makes sense to listen to your customers all good companies do that, what this shows is how companies listen and show they are listening is becoming more and more sophisticated.  All good but I guess what really matters is that as a business you get the key things right and hopefully don’t need to learn really basic lessons from your customers or show them that you do. Some of the Dominos video, like caring about the key ingredients were stating the obvious and show that you have lost your way a bit.  Maybe Dominos have changed and if they have all power to them because changing product in a company that size can’t be easy!

Having said that if you have any feedback / comments on just-eat feel free to tweet, nudge, youtube, email, live chat, call or if you’re in Edgware you could even do it the old fashioned way and come and talk to us face to face! ;-)

I think if your user base were to be educated about the “behind the scenes” in 99% of takeaways that you promote then you would go bust over night. The cheapest of the cheap ingredients, some truly disgusting kitchens and of course then there’s the staff! And that’s just the beginning

Just-Eat want to champion the local takeaway heroes that we all have and are loyal to and share that information via the review system with other local people in your area. Of course in a nation of tens of thousands there are restaurants that are better than others but that is a personal choice. Let’s also remember there are many fantastic ones and that is what just-eat is all about…giving people the choice.

Just-Eat would not ‘go bust’ overnight, you’re missing the point of the concept! We are the ones who are driving transparency and opennesss in this market: the more information, reviews and knowledge we can share, the better in our minds and in the minds of most takeaway owners – most of whom are rightly proud of the food and service they provide at excellent value. The review system on just-eat raises standards and helps consumers to make informed choices about their takeaway order. It is simple really and no wonder in a congested space we are confident that Just-Eat will help the best local heroes to become stronger and bigger.

I agree with what you had to say in your article. The sooner companies realize that the social networks are what make you big, the faster they’ll see more business. Thanks for the article :)
